Norwegian wool, 100% Norwegian production and close collaboration with Scandinavia's leading designers and textile artists have made blankets from Røros Tweed one of the most well-reputed all-Norwegian quality products. 

The founding of Røros Tweed was a continuation of the Hiort Foundation's home improvement activities. It began with weaving courses in 1938–39. Textiles were woven in private homes as Hiort's Foundation had run it for 150 years, and a sales center was established. Investments were made in machines, and eventually the business switched to more factory-based production. The need for larger premises arose, and a new factory was completed in 1952.

Over the years, Røros Tweed has experimented with Norwegian wool and the development of textile products of high quality and design. The factory has for many years collaborated with leading Norwegian textile artists.

Today, Røros Tweed has reorganized its production to meet the challenges of the modern textile industry. The factory's production is now concentrated on high-quality blankets in 100% pure new wool with designs inspired by the aesthetic and cultural heritage of Røros.

The design is inspired by the aesthetic and cultural heritage of Røros - and the fascinating high mountain scenery.

The Mikkel series was launched at ICFF in New York in 2015, and was voted best textile at the ICFF Editors Awards. The motifs combine a geometric pattern inspired by the Bauhaus movement and Norwegian weaving traditions with modern use of colour. The collection consists of large blankets, half-sized blankets, baby blankets, cushions and seating mats.

While working with the blankets, Melvær combined her two disciplines of industrial design and graphic design. The Norwegian manufacturer Røros Tweed made the prototypes. A carefully sorted blend of the finest Norwegian wool is carded, spun, twisted, dyed, woven and finished at their factories in Norway.
