Arne Lindaas was somewhat of a ‘Renaissance Man’ inasmuch as he excelled as an artist, designer and craftsman. This appellation is also fitting because he worked with a wide variety of materials. In 1949 he was the first professional designer employed by Magnor Glassverk. After some years he became a freelancer, designing pieces in glass for everyday use as well as more artistic creations. From 1952 onwards, he designed tableware decor for Porsgrunds Porselensfabrikk. During 1958-59 he was artistic director of Plus applied arts centre in Fredrikstad. While there, Lindaas worked with glass, wood, ceramics and other materials. Starting in the late 1950s, the textile products manufacturer Sellgren & Co. produced many of Lindaas’ designs for rugs. With their distinct pictorial expression, they proved popular amongst the general public.
