Hans Brattrud was still a student at Statens Håndverks og Kunstindustriskole when he designed his most famous chair, Scandia Jr., in 1957. It features a fine back and seat alignment in eight longitudinal strips of laminated wood. The chair was first produced in 1960 and released to the general public the following year. Brattrud gradually expanded, developing a series of models and variations including Scandia Tilt, Scandianette and Scandia Senior. At the Deutsche Handwerksmesse in 1967, Brattrud received the gold medal from the Bavarian State Government for Scandia Jr. With the armchair Arktis, designed in 1961, he continued to innovate with laminate materials. In 1964 he founded an architectural office and a factory for the production of prefabricated housing. Today the Scandia series is produced by Fjordfiesta.
8枚の細い積層材をストライプ状に並べた座面が特徴 的な「Scandia Jr.」は、ハンス・ブラットルゥが1957年当 時、まだ国立工芸美術学校の学生だったときにデザインしたものです。この椅子は60年に初めて生産ラインにの り、61年に一般販売を開始。また、その後シリーズも増え、 〈Scandia Tilt〉〈Scandianette〉〈Scandia Senior〉などが登場しました。1967年、ドイツ工芸見本市にて 〈Scandia Jr.〉と61年にデザインしたアームチェア 〈 Arctis〉で バイエ ルン 州 から 金 賞 を 受 賞 した 彼 は 、さらに 合 板 の 研 究 を 進 めてい きます。6 4 年 、建 売 住 宅 を 製 造 す る た め の 建 築 事 務 所 と工 場 を 設 立 。〈 Scandia 〉シリ ーズ は 現 在 で も フィヨルドフィエスタ社が生産を続けています。
