Severin Brørby was hired as a designer at Hadeland Glassverk in 1956. While there, he collaborated with Arne Jon Jutrem and Willy Johansson in developing a series of art glass characterised by a strict, refined style. His first step into glass art was the spear-shaped etched vase 7001, which displays a distinguished sense of form. For the 7014 vase in blue and green flashed glass, he won the Merket for god design (The Award for Design Excellence, Norway) in 1970. Br.rby was also a skilled designer of functional studio glass. The wine glass series Severin from 1961 has a more solid base, suitable for stacking. In accordance with the era in which they were made, Severin and other series Brørby produced in the 1960s and ’70s are more robust than his previous works. Around 1970 he combined yellow and orange glass to give shape to the Ra and Pasvik series. After leaving Hadeland in 1984, Severin Brørby established his own glass studio.
1956年、Hadeland Glassverkでデザイナーとして働き始めたセヴェリン・ブロービーは、アルネ・ヨン・ユートレム やヴィリー・ヨハンソンらと恊働のもと、非常に厳格で洗 練されたスタイルを持つガラス工芸品を完成させました。丸みを帯びたエッチングガラスの花瓶〈7001〉の発表で 工芸界に衝撃を与えたブロービーは、続けて発表した青 と緑の色被せガラス〈7014〉で、70年にノルウェーアワード で優秀デザイン賞を受賞。彼はガラス職人としての才能 も発揮していきます。より堅い素材を用い、スタッキング にも適したワイングラスシリーズ〈Severin〉(1961年)をはじめ、60〜70年代の作品はさらにがっしりとした形状 になっています。70年頃になると、黄色やオレンジで構成 した〈Ra〉〈Pasvik〉などを発表。84年に退社Hadeland Glassverk社を退社し、自身のアトリエを設立しました。
