In 1947, Rolf Hansen, in collaboration with Sven Skjøveland and Birgitte Carlsen, established the ceramic workshop Kongsberg Keramikk. At the exhibition Håstmønstringen in 1952 (organised by Foreningen Brukskunst, a national organisation for craft artists), the three artists presented works in clay and chamotte that were decorated with white tin glaze and incised d.cor. In 1955 Kongsberg Keramikk won the gold medal at the international ceramics exhibition Les Chefs-d'oeuvres de la Céramique Moderne, Cannes. In 1957, Rolf Hansen and his wife Ragna became directors of Kongsberg Keramikk. One year later, Rolf became artistic director of Plus in Fredrikstad (1958-59). He participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad: Triennale di Milano in 1954 and 1960, Formes Scandinaves in 1958/59 and Scandinavian Design Cavalcade in 1963, just to name a few. Fantasy figures and imaginative d.cor are characteristic for Hansen’s oeuvre. One can often find motifs of cows, roosters and chickens in his works.
