Bendt Winge was one of the first professional interior designers to work for the Norwegian furniture industry. With a solid education both as a cabinetmaker and interior designer, he established his own design studio in 1934. Winge worked as a freelancer for Møbelindustri A/S for almost thirty years. The collaboration resulted in furniture marked by high-quality craftsmanship. One of Winge’s best sellers was Klaffebord no. 2, produced by Kleppe Møbelfabrikk. In 1958 he designed an exclusive sliding chair and footstool upholstered in sheepskin for Bjarne Hansen’s Verksteder. For the Romo factories, Winge designed the plastic chair R-49. It and other chairs in the R-series are produced today by Nordic Comfort Products, and thus far approximately five million of them have been sold.
