Stressless is not just a chair – it is an entire concept. When launched in 1971, Ekornes’ reclining chair Stressless Original was the first reclining chair to answer all of the body’s needs for support and movability when seated. In the early years of the TV era, it soon became a popular fixture in Norwegian homes. The fully variable sliding function regulating one’s seating position, offering the user to find his or her personal optimal seating position was a highly innovative feature. During more than four decades on the market, Ekornes has refined the Stressless concept, and adapted the chair’s shape to shifting wants and demands. The company has long since asserted its position on the international market. In 2011, Stressless Original (1971) and Stressless Jazz Medium (2006) were both chosen as representing Norwegian furniture classics by a professional jury.
