Torbjørn Afdal started working at Bruksbo Tegnekontor in 1946 and was among the most prolific post-war Norwegian designers. His work is characterized by a refined understanding of shape and material. He received the gold medal at the 1959 craft fair So wohnt Europa in Munich, in part for the dining set Form. Around 1960, Afdals furniture designs took on a more architectural style, as exemplified by the armchair Broadway and the hunting chair Hunter, two of his artistic highlights from that period. Considered among Alfdal's classics are Krobo, a multi-purpose bench, the Times liquor cabinet and the Minerva range of conference furniture. Afdal also functioned as artistic director of the Bruksbo furniture workshop at Plus, which was a national centre for applied arts in Fredrikstad.
