Hiorth & Østlyngen
1933 - 1969The furniture manufacturer and design bureau Hiorth og Østlyngen was founded by Arne Hiorth and Leif Østlyngen in 1933. The company provided employment for several Norwegian architects and furniture designers, including the architect Knut Knutsen and the furniture designer Alf Sture, the latter working at Hiorth og .stlyngen from 1940-52. Early on, Sture’s furniture reflected a relaxed, functional style, whilst his later works had a more traditional slant. In 1953 Hiorth og Østlyngen started producing the 103-series chairs designed by Arne Hiorth. The fact that these chairs were collapsible and could be put together in less than a minute, without the use of tools, made them a perfect export product. Hiorth og Østlyngen disbanded in 1969.
アルネ・ヨルトとレイフ・ウストリンゲンが1933年に設立した 家具工房、ヨルト&ウストリンゲンは、オリジナルデザインを手がけながらも、クヌット・クヌットセンをはじめと するノルウェーの建築家や家具デザイナーと恊働し、多くの作品を残しました。40年〜52年にヨルト& ウストリンゲンに在籍したアルフ・スチューレは、当初、座 り心地や機能性に大きく注目していましたが、後に、より伝統的なスタイルへと傾倒していきます。53年、ヨルト& ウストリンゲンは、アルネ・ヨルトのデザインによる椅子 〈103〉シリーズを発表。道具を使わずに、1分程度で簡単 に組み立られるこの椅子は、輸出にも最適なものでした。ヨルト&ウストリンゲンは69年にその歴史に幕を閉じます。
