Jan Lunde Knudsen
1922 - 1990Jan Lunde Knudsen was one of Norway’s most internationally-oriented furniture designers who came to prominence in the 1960s. For most of the ’50s, he lived in the United States. After returning to Norway in the early ’60s, he worked for a period designing furniture for Sørlie møbler. The model Rondo was produced in 1961. It was an elegant stack chair that came in wood or steel with leather or fabric. The same theme – a curved back – was used by Lunde Knudsen for Tele, designed for Sørlie møbler around 1963. Lunde Knudsen’s INFI series met a high international standard. It was constructed over a wide range of modular solutions that could be combined into hundreds of varieties. The exclusive series was relatively widely exported; even in Japan, INFI won a major design prize.
