Bjørn Engø
1920 - 1981Awards:
- 1957 – Gold medal, Triennale di Milano
Shortly after graduating from Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole, Bjørn Engø began designing furniture for, among others, Gjøvik Møbelindustri and Alfred Enge. Around 1950 he started a fruitful collaboration with the furniture manufacturer Gustav Bahus Eftf., which produced several of his experimental chairs in laminated wood. These were characterised by an international style that turned out to be too radical for contemporary Norwegian sensibilities. In 1953 Eng. ventured into working with enamel and copper in his own workshop, and around 1956 he began designing for Emalox, a company that mass-produced everyday appliances in anodized aluminum. For Sandvika Veveri he designed decorative fabrics, and for Arnold Wiigs Fabrikker lighting fixtures.
