Jan Lunde Knudsen was one of Norways most internationally oriented furniture designers of the 1960s. For most of the 50s, he lived in the United States. Back in Norway in the early 60s, he worked for a period designing furniture for Sørlie møbler. The model Rondo was produced in 1961. It was an elegant stack chair which came in wood or steel with leather or fabric. The same theme, a curved back, was used by Lunde Knudsen for Tele, designed for Sørlie møbler around 1963.

Fjordfiesta was founded in 2001 with the ambition to reconnect with Scandinavian design heritage and to focus on Norwegian design aesthetics. The company’s factory, however, is much older. Located in a deep valley by the Dokka River in the heart of Norway, it has been producing quality furniture for the past 65 years.


Fjordfiesta’s intention is to create furniture that will last for generations to come. Fjordfiesta’s initial project was to reintroduce the timeless Scandia range of chairs that had been designed by Hans Brattrud in the 1950s. The chairs, which had only been available through vintage dealers since the mid ‘70s, were slightly trimmed by the designer and put into production again in 2001. The Scandia series is eco-labelled by the ‘Swan’, the official Nordic eco-label. All materials are chosen with great consideration, and by using a stainless steel base, water-base lacquer and wood from certified forestry, the Scandia series is an environmentally conscious choice.

When working on the Pi table, the duo Anderssen & Voll had different ideas on the construction. The slightly tapered legs was an idea that popped up in a meeting with Pål Lunder, founder of Fjordfiesta, and gives the side table a playful touch.

In 1960 Torbjørn Afdal designed the multi purpose bench Krobo. It became an instant classic in Norway because of its unique flexibility and multitude of possible uses. The bench was re-launched by Fjordfiesta in cooperation with Utopia Retro Modern in 2014. Torbjørn Afdal, who started working as a designer at Bruksbo Tegnekontor in 1946, was one of the most prolific post-war Norwegian designers.

Krobo 2000

Designed by Andreas Engesvik, Oslo, the wooden chair Vang is built and constructed around a sturdy framework. The uprights that form the backrest and the way they are connected to the seat are directly inspired by Alf Sture’s Windsor chairs, designed for Tonning in the 1960s. The stick-back-theme is reworked to fit a modern context. The steam-bent top-piece, which has been used by a number of designers through the years, is today recognised as a classic Scandinavian design element. The technique is traditional: joint fittings and glue. The Vang chair was launched at the Norwegian exhibition during the London Design Festival in September 2012.

Since 1946, Tonning & Stryn has made furniture using traditional handcrafting methods in combination with modern machine techniques, resulting in pieces that are both of the moment and guaranteed to grow old with dignity. Today, Tonning & Stryn produces the iconic furniture of its late long-standing collaborator Alf Sture, together with new designs inspired by the quality, craftsmanship and traditions for which the furniture village of Stryn has been known for generations.

Built and constructed around a sturdy framework, Andreas Engesvik’s Vang chair is a typical example of this approach. The uprights that form the backrest and the way in which they are connected to the seat are directly inspired by Alf Sture’s Windsor chairs, designed for Tonning in the 1960s. The technique is traditional, the expression honest, and the simple design true to its materials – making Vang both a tribute to a classic and a paragon of contemporary Norwegian furniture design.

Heymat’s story started in the harsh and beautiful Northern Norway, surrounded by fjords and mountains — and lots of stormy weather. There the married couple Sonja Djønne and Thoralf Lian, ran a small family business with special expertise in washing and renting out industrial mats. They wanted to introduce a mat that was both functional and good looking.

The Grorud chair was designed in 1958 by Hans Bratterud as the perfect stacking chair for kitchens and cafeterias. Solid, simple design with veneer seat in three designs. The characteristic transparent back which is seamlessly integrated into the seat gives the chair a strong architectonic expression. The Grorud chair comes in 3 different designs: Oak, black or walnut.

Objekt is an Oslo-based furniture company established in spring 2018 by founders Kjetil Gudem and Preben Mehren. Objekt works with both established and new designers. Their focus is on developing authentic and lasting products that break with traditional norms and challenge new Norwegian design.

Objekt are very proud that all their products are made in Scandinavia - most produced in Norway. This means that they can maintain close contact with their factories and easily manage the quality of the furniture.

A measuring spoon in stainless steel. The inspiration for Gram is drawn from measuring instruments, scales and other precision tools.
The spoon is designed to hold 10 grams of medium grind coffee, suitable for drip coffee and for most pour over brewing tools.

Nedre Foss is a Norwegian brand of sustainable homeware objects rooted in Scandinavian design. Nedre Foss is directed by the design studio Anderssen & Voll. Founded by Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll in 2009.


The core of Nedre Foss is the notion of the Century Product + what they refer to as Sculptural Utility or 

 as we’d say in Norwegian. By this the studio mean objects that will serve you for at least 100 years, and where the sculptural qualities on one side and the utility aspect on the other, are equal parts of the function.

The archive lamps are mouthblown and hand-sanded with 250-year-old techniques at Hadeland Glassverk. The archive lamp 4006 is the oldest and most unique form from 1932.

As the owner of an archive lamp, you get a unique product based on passionate craftmanship and Norwegian design history. Every lamp is handmade and unique. Therefore small bubbles are a part of each lamps uniqueness. Read about the production here. This product is made to order. Delivery time varies from 3-5 weeks.

Hadeland Glassverk was founded in 1762, and is located in scenic surroundings on Jevnaker at the southern end of the Randsfjord. Glassverket is one of Norway's oldest industrial companies, and their area of focus is preserving history and cultural heritage, but also developing and creating new designs.

When Hadeland Glassverk was first established, their main area was to produce bottles, apothecary glass, medicine glass and glass for household use. Today they produce everything from small glasses and wine glasses to bowls, dishes, flower pots and vases.

It was Norwegian design duo Morten & Jonas’ fascination with quarries, and the imprint left on the landscape from extracting the stone, that inspired their Monolith Candle Holder.

Available in three sizes that fit neatly together, as well as a wall mounted option, this series of candle holders also comes in four materials. Birdy is a table, wall and floor lamp series designed in 1952, in a modernist style. The lamp series was produced and sold by the Norwegian electricity company Sønnico (Oslo) for many years. In 1954 the table lamp, then known as “s-30016” was awarded the highly esteemed Golden Medal at the Milan Triennale.

In 2013 Northern decided to re-launch this design classic, taking care to preserve the original shape and highly functional features that at first made it such a well–loved light. The lamp series is available in white, grey or black colour with steel finish and black coloured shade with black or brass metal finish.

Birdy is also available as a floor lamp and wall lamp with short or long arm.

The Mikkel series was launched at ICFF in New York in 2015, and was voted best textile at the ICFF Editors Awards. The motifs combine a geometric pattern inspired by the Bauhaus movement and Norwegian weaving traditions with modern use of colour. The collection consists of large blankets, half-sized blankets, baby blankets, cushions and seating mats.

While working with the blankets, Melvær combined her two disciplines of industrial design and graphic design. The Norwegian manufacturer Røros Tweed made the prototypes. A carefully sorted blend of the finest Norwegian wool is carded, spun, twisted, dyed, woven and finished at their factories in Norway.

Norwegian wool, 100% Norwegian production and close collaboration with Scandinavia's leading designers and textile artists have made blankets from Røros Tweed one of the most well-reputed all-Norwegian quality products. The design is inspired by the aesthetic and cultural heritage of Røros - and the fascinating high mountain scenery.

Oval is a Norwegian design classic inspired by the country's rural heritage, with refined workmanship and a distinct Scandinavian style. Designed in the 1960s by missionary and designer Einar Barnes, Oval was an export success and currently achieves record prices at international auctions. For over a decade, Utopia Retro Modern has promoted Norwegian design history through sales and exhibitions and is now relaunching this design icon. Oval can be used as a magazine holder in the living room or an elegant wastepaper basket at the office. Available in oiled oak and walnut.

Since 2002, Oslo design gallery Utopia Retro Modern has strived to promote Norwegian design history through sales and exhibitions. Its aim has been to create interest in 20th century design – and Norway’s role in particular. In 2012, the galery started producing its own designs, as well as relaunching a selection of

Norwegian classics. Utopia Workshop was established in 2014 as an independent company, specialising in the manufacture and distribution of furniture and other design objects.

Dahl’s seamless curves and crisp, white surfaces may seem completely contemporary, but this classic design has a long and illustrious past. Dahl was originally created in 1956 and installed in the newly-renovated Norwegian Parliament building two years later. The light was reintroduced by Northern in 2016, following the relaunch of Birger Dahl’s classic Dokka and Birdy designs. For decades, Dahl’s smooth shape and soft contours have blended effortlessly into modern interiors and created a focal point that illuminates the room.

Dokka is a small light with a big history. Designed in 1954, it was the first lamp from Norway to receive a Golden Medal award at the prestigious Triennale di Milano. Acclaimed for its smooth contours, precise proportions and sleek handling of materials, Dokka had the potential to become a design classic from day one. It became one of the best-selling pendant lamps ever produced in Norway, then disappeared when the previous manufacturer discontinued their lighting range.


In 2007, Northern re-launched Dokka, taking care to preserve the features that made it a design classic. Today, the lamp is expertly crafted in steel or brass, and made to last. The light is available in a range of colours: black, dark grey, white, light yellow, rust red, dark green, warm beige, brushed steel and brushed brass. An icon of its time, Dokka is uniquely contemporary, and is destined to become a future antique.
