In the mid-1950s, the Norwegian ceramic industry was rather dull, with very few dinnerware sets evoking emotions. However, in 1955, a bombshell was dropped when Glohane came to the market. Tias Eckhoff and Porsgrund Porselænsfabrik had spent a couple of years developing this dinnerware set. There were many specific requirements to be met, and the project was carried out in collaboration with the State Information Office for Home Economics.

Glohane was designed to be practical and durable, with a limited number of pieces that could be mixed and matched with porcelain from other dinnerware sets. It was meant to be functional, with few pieces, no design and the ability to stack it. Its special feature was its ability to go directly from the stove to the dining table. It was not only fire-resistant but also suitable for stovetop use. The coffee pot set won the gold medal in Triennalen i Milano in 1957.
