Furniture designer Ingmar Relling started his career at Rastad & Relling design studio in 1947. He worked there until 1950, then established his own studio in Sykkylven. In 1954 Relling designed the foldable chair Nordic for the furniture factory Vestlandske Møbelfabrikk. In the 1950s and ’60s he adapted his models to more rationalised and industrialised means of production. Ingmar Relling’s international classic was the armchair Siesta. It also earned him first prize in the 1965 national chair competition organised by Bransjerådet for møbel- og innredningsindustrien. Perhaps Relling’ most distinctive work from the 1970s is the armchair Tema, from 1973. Tema was inspired by Siesta but made from flat steel. Today Siesta is produced by LK Hjelle.

Birdy is a series of table, wall and floor lamps designed in 1952 by Birger Dahl. The modernist-style lamps were produced and sold by the Norwegian electricity company Sønnico (Oslo) for many years. In 1954 the table lamp, then known as S-30016, was awarded the highly esteemed Golden Medal at the Milan Triennale. In 2013 Northern Lighting decided to re-launch this design classic, taking care to preserve the original shape and highly functional features that made it such a well loved lamp in the first place.
